Sizzling Beef - EASY DINNER RECIPE

Postby Neitz » Tue Jul 14, 2015 5:45 pm

This is something that can be done quickly and is our go to recipe when we can't think of what to have for dinner. It's our version of a Chinese restaurant dish. In a restaurant it is served sizzling on a cast iron plate. Obviously we just use a pot for ours.

Sizzling Beef

400 - 500 grams of beef steak
2 tbs oyster sauce
1 tbs soy sauce
2 tbs corn flour
1 large onion
broccoli and/or bok choy and/or wombok (as much as you like)
3 tomatoes
oil

1.Cut the onion in half and then into wedges.
2. Cut the steak into strips.
3. Chop your vegetables into small pieces and the tomatoes into wedges.
4. In a bowl place the steak strips, add the corn flour, soy sauce and oyster sauce. The meat should be coated in the mixture. If it isn't enough add small amounts of
the soy and oyster sauce until well coated.
5. Heat the oil in a pot over a medium to hot stove. Use enough oil to cover the bottom of the pot.
6. When the oil is hot and runs easily across the bottom on the pot add the onion. Quickly stir them in the oil.
7. When the onions are browned and becoming translucent, add the beef stirring it around the pot browning it quickly.
8. When the beef is almost browned, add the broccoli / bok choy / wombok and continue to stir.
9. Add the tomato and stir again.
10. Cover the pot, stirring occasionally to make sure it is cooking evenly.
11. When the meat is cooked to your liking serve. The tomatoes should help to create a nice sauce. If there isn't enough sauce you can add more tomatoes.

Serve with rice. The sauce is particularly nice spooned over the rice.

Sounds good. Do you use a wok for this or a normal saucepan?

This was yum, Anita, and so easy! I am a terrible cook of Asian food usually but this was lovely and tender.

I did have to substitute fish sauce as I noticed that our bottle of oyster sauce expired in 2005!!! It realised this means it has moved house with us 5 times!!!

 Lynn. We go through a lot of oyster sauce in this house. Fish sauce is a good substitute.
